Discovering New Sounds

Alright! Let's get down to it!
Rock and Roll. Elvis. The Beatles. Queen. Nickelback.
Okay, maybe not Nickelback. Music has been a huge part of my life, maybe second to writing. Okay, maybe third (after art) but, that's not the point. Music. The sound that makes you move, and snap your fingers, and nod your head. The sound that keeps you up at night when it hits the right spot. The sound that pushes you that final hurdle, that final lap, land that final punch.
Music.
I was cruising through Spotify, as I do in this time of paper mountains and endless school hours behind a screen. Then, that's when I found it. Another UK rock band to cry over!
The makeup, the accents, the damn good guitar that just makes me want to air guitar along. It was all there!
Then my brain did what it usually did. It built stories. It filtered the lyrics into characters, into voices, into instruments as different elements of a scene. It was a story that smelled like tobacco, and tasted like cherry soda, and felt like a drop just before a roller coaster.
All it took was a few minutes of listening to get it in my head.
So, if you're stuck on a project, put a radio on shuffled. Vibe. You never know when you'll find something. And if you do? Chase it, catch it, dig deeper into it. All it takes is a spark. Who knows? A few beats of a drum just might be it.
